If there is one room in the house that’s likely to have plumbing problems, it’s the bathroom. Bathroom plumbing includes the toilet, bath and/or shower, and the sink. That’s a lot of plumbing in a small area, and occasional problems are inevitable. We’ll outline some of the most common problems found in the bathroom.
Whether it’s the sink, bathtub, or toilet, one of most common problems is a slow drain. While this may be more of an annoyance, it can eventually turn into a clog if the problem isn’t taken care of quickly. Slow drains are usually caused by a small blockage preventing the water from draining properly. DIYers can remove the pop-up and clean out the pipe; when it comes to the bathroom sinks and bathtubs, the most common problem is hair. For the toilet, the best thing is a good plunging to clear out any debris. If it still drains slowly, then it might be time to call a professional.
It may not seem like a big deal if your sink or bathtub faucet drips. It’s just going into the drain, so it’s not a big deal, right? Over time, you’re wasting a considerable amount of water down the drain. It’s environmentally wasteful, plus you’re paying for the water. Also, a leaking faucet could be the beginning of a larger problem, so it’s better to take care of it early before it becomes a major expense.
There is nothing more frustrating than low water pressure. First, check to see if the pressure is low for both the hot and cold water settings. If they are, then the problem is likely with the aerator. Over time, debris and deposits can adhere to it and cause a resistance to water flow. If only one of the settings is impacted, then it could be a leak or other issue.
If your bathroom has these or other issues, let us help you get them fixed, so life can get back to normal.
We’ve been called to many homes through the years where we see how a major residential plumbing disaster could have been averted with a little vigilance by the homeowner. There are pipes running throughout your home that bring clean water into your home and usher contaminated water out. They’re important and there are ways you can keep them safe.
For the most part, plumbing is out of sight and out of mind for many homeowners. The vast majority of the time, It just works. With a little vigilance, it can stay that way. Do you notice your toilet not flushing as fast? You might have a clog starting. Do you have a clogged toilet that needs a plunger regularly? You might have a blockage in the pipes. Keep an eye out for water under the sink or small puddles on the floor; that could mean you have a leak. Pay attention to changes in your plumbing and solve the problem before it becomes a major expense.
We’ve been called out to many clogged bathrooms to find a ball or children’s toy lodged in the bowl. Kids are wonderful, but they love to watch the water swirl and if Sailor Jack goes with… well, bon voyage. It’s also tempting to just throw away “flushable” wipes or paper towels down the toilets just because it’s easier than throwing them away, but those don’t degrade like toilet paper (even those “flushable” wipes.) We’ll come out to fix your plumbing regardless, but just know that a clogged toilet caused by poor flushing choices can be avoided.
You’re not an expert on plumbing or water heaters, and you don’t have to be. Even with the most eagle eyes, you may not realize there’s a plumbing problem until it’s too late. Our licensed plumbers can catch these problems possibly even before they happen with an annual plumbing inspection. We’ll come out and give everything a good once over and warn you of any potential issues. We want you to have the best plumbing possible, so follow these tips and set your fears to rest. Contact us today and schedule an inspection or get those pesky plumbing problems fixed.
When it comes to residential plumbing, the last thing a homeowner wants to see is a bathroom or basement filled with raw sewage. It’s gross, and life comes to a complete standstill. There’s no laundry. There are no showers. There’s no going to the bathroom. What should be going down is now coming back up. When there’s a major clog or standing water in your yard, you’ll need a sewer inspection.
Most normal clogs happen near the beginning of the pipe and impact only one area. For example, hair clogging a shower drain won’t impact the toilet or the kitchen sink. When the clog happens further down the line, it’s more difficult to diagnose.
Often times over the counter products work with small clogs. But when dirty water is backing up in multiple areas, you need reliable plumbers to take care of the situation. There are many things that could be causing the problem, such as tree roots breaking through and causing a blockage, damage to the pipe itself, and items blocked deep in the pipe. The problem could also stem from a mix of all of these and more. The best way to find out is with a sewer pipe inspection.
Your home is a maze of pipes that all link up to the main sewer line to get rid of used water. With a sewer inspection, our team uses a camera that will go into your pipes to see what’s causing the problem.
The plumbing problem is not likely to be happening anywhere near your sinks or toilets; it’s more likely happening near where the pipes link up or even further down the line. The camera is small and able to manage the twists and turns of the pipes and show us not only what the issue is, but how far into the sewer pipes it is located. Once we know what and where, we can decide the best way to take care of it.
Don’t gamble with the health of your family. Call Hansen’s right away if you suspect there may be an issue.
Many times, people are worried about the cost associated with major plumbing work, but when sewage is backing up into the home or yard, it’s not something that can wait. That’s because sewage isn’t just regular water; it’s filled with bacteria and other contaminated materials that are health hazards.
Let us keep your home and family safe.
The holidays are stressful enough with school plays, church outings, and the countless number of people visiting your house for Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas. You need to have reliable plumbing throughout the season or else your dream holiday could become a nightmare.
You may not think so, but you’re using much more water during the holidays than you realize. There are extra dishes that need to be washed, more showers because of all the events, and don’t forget about how many times Uncle Buck’s going to be using your bathroom!
Now is the perfect time to get all those small problems you’ve been procrastinating fixed and make sure everyone has a wonderful holiday season.
Have you noticed your drains aren’t draining as fast as they should be or your toilet bowl not flushing as fast? This may be a minor inconvenience now, but when your house is full of people, it could be a disaster. Slow drains are likely caused by minor clogs that reliable plumbers can take care of with ease. They may also notice other issues that you’re not even aware of, such as leaks or other plumbing problems.
When Uncle Buck clears out the turkey dinner, the last thing you want is him running out of the bathroom screaming because the toilet overflowed, or seeing the sink overflowing with dishes that need to be washed.
The holidays are a busy time for everyone, including plumbers, so you might be tempted to hire the first one with an opening to visit your home, but be wary; only open your home to licensed plumbers like Hansen’s, because we are certified and have proof that we are experts in our field.
You run into many risks when an unlicensed plumber enters your home, including shoddy work and untrustworthy business practices. You could wind up with a problem that is worse than when it started or be overcharged for basic plumbing services. Let Hansen’s make sure your holiday plans go like they’re supposed to, by celebrating Thanksfixing and Fixmas worry-free!

Hansen’s Plumbing has the sophisticated equipment ready to inspect your house! We utilize a multi-step process that will ensure up-to-date plumbing for you and your family.
Want a play-by-play of your sewer system? We are able to offer you the footage. Our sewer video inspections, create a system that offers complete visibility to any plumbing damage both above and below the surface. The video records a 360 view of any detected clogs and leaks so we can go back and analyze the scene with a greater lens.
What’s in it for you? Here’s what the sewer video inspections can detect:
If your plumbing is misaligned, infiltration will occur from the ground work. The extra wastewater will enter and erode the soil, leading to pressure build up and pipelines to collapse.
If there is a crack, hole, or separation in your pipe, tree roots or other organic plant material can enter. The warm flow of water through drainage pipes create condensation. Tree roots seek the moisture, so the smallest opening will allow the roots to enter and grow inside of the pipe. If left unnoticed, the tiny roots scale into larger roots; causing shifting root movement to lead to pipe failure.
When there is a low area, flat or belly spot, the pipe ends up holding excessive water after the flow has ended its cycle. The pooling water can build up debris which can lead to a backup or blockage.
Cross bores occur from directional drilling work. If a natural gas line is cut or configured simultaneously when plumbers are unclogging a sewer line, a fire or explosion can be generated from the unintentional cross contact.
Not all objects are meant to go down the drains. If they prevent water from passing through the sewer lines, a blockage, clog, or backup of water and flooding will occur.
The first step to solving the problem is becoming aware of it. Thanks to the sewer video inspection, we get to the root of the problem and then provide you with different options to correct your sewer lines.
Still don’t think that you need an inspection? We promise that you’ll thank later.

Water makes up approximately 70% of our entire body, so it is important to keep it in good condition. As plumbing professionals, we are first to know about water safety, but we want you to have that quality assurance all year round.
Plumbing services work to eliminate backflow. A backflow condition can occur if the pressure inside your home increases higher than the incoming water pressure, from a booster pump system for example, or if there is a back siphonage condition which could happen if a fire hydrant gets broken. When this occurs, the contaminated water cross connects with your current water source and could cause an intake of unhealthy water back into the water that you drink. Reverse Osmosis Systems will remove common chemical contaminants (metal ions, aqueous salts), including sodium, chloride, copper, chromium, and lead; may reduce arsenic, fluoride, radium, sulfate, calcium, magnesium, potassium, nitrate, and phosphorous.
Keep your water fresh: You are what you eat, right? More like, you are what you drink. It’s important to know how safe your water is prior to it entering your plumbing line. Unsanitary water can cause serious health issues and old outdated plumbing systems can leach lead into the water lines. Through the technique of water softening, calcium and magnesium ions are removed; as they cause the water to be hard. Iron ions may also be removed during softening. The best way to soften water is to use a water softener unit and connect it directly to the water supply.
To avoid spending more time in the bathroom than you had intended you want to be aware of not allowing bacteria to enter the water that you use for food and drink. An active charcoal carbon filter is the most effective at removing chlorine, sediment, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), taste and odor from water. They are not effective at removing minerals, salts, and dissolved inorganic compounds.
Lead, on the other hand, is good for shielding Superman against kryptonite, paints and gas, but NOT good for your health. Lead poisoning is damaging on the brain and nervous system. Toxic chemicals can be released from your own pipes, faucets, and more. If lead leaches into your water system, your refreshing water can become toxic. A simple check by an experienced plumber can easily prevent all of these issues for you and your family.
Keep the age of your house in mind. Just like shoes and hairstyles get dated, so do your pipes. The older your house, the more it pays to have your pipes checked. Be proactive; not reactive. Get a yearly check-up or at least a regular inspection throughout the year. One check up in a day, can keep the doctor away.
Let us help make sure your family is safe!
